CCiL 2022 Annual Workshop
The CCiL Annual Workshop will take place on the 2nd June 2022, at 10.00 (a.m.), at the Aula Magna (UB-Filosophy). You will find the workshop schedule below.
As usual, the program will include a conference, information about research opportunities (salary grants) and PhD registration and a panel of former CCiL students explaining their whereabouts after finishing the MA.
Schedule

10.10 - 10.50: "What can I do after my MA? PhD grant opportunities", by Cristina Pulido.
10.50 - 11.00: "PhD admission and registration information", by Júlia Baron.
11.00 - 12.00: "Panel of former MA students", by Fernando Broncano (Philosophy), María Sánchez Tarjuelo (Linguistics) and Olivia Gawel (Psychology).

12.30 - 13.30: Conference: "Resolving the bouba-kiki effect enigma", by Mathidle Fort (Université Grenoble Alpes).
Conference abstract
The "bouba-kiki effect", where "bouba" is perceived round and "kiki" spiky, remains a puzzling enimga. We solve it by combining mathematical findings largely unknown in the field, with computational models and novel experimental evidence. We reveal that this effect relies on two accoustic cues: spectral balance and temporal continuity. We demonstrate that it is not speech-specific but rather rooted in physical properties of objects, creating audiovisual regularities in the environment. Round items are matehmatically bound to produce, when hitting or rolling on a surface, lower-frequency spectra and more continuous sounds than same-size spiky objects. Finally, we show that adults are sensitive to such regularities. Hence, intuitive physics impacts language perception and possibily lenguage acquisition and evolution too.
