Summary:
In this talk I will explain my personal experience in transitioning from a research path (PhD in Statistical Mechanics) to become co-CEO of a data science innovation studio in a joint project with other former researchers. I will try to give examples of what we do and justify why our knowledge and research background is important to our success. I'll also discuss lessons we've learned in industry that can (and should) be carried over to research practice and offer recommendations on key skills to have in the world of data science. Of course, at the end, I'll be happy to answer any questions (personal or technical) you might have, and I'll share some final thoughts on the pros and cons of going off the research path.
