Goals

The purpose of this course is to familiarize the students with a series of advanced, specialized themes in Psychology and Cognitive Science. These themes will involve issues related to language, attention, development, and various other aspects of Cognition. For this, the students will be presented with lectures by international speakers. These lectures will cover a diverse array of current research topics in Psychology and Cognitive Science.

In the case that teaching should be implemented virtually, the students will be presented with on-line talks. These talks will have the same format and the same length as the talks the invited speakers would have given. All questions, further bibliography and additional issues will be addressed by the course coordinator. The students will present 4 reports from the talks each one chooses. The guidelines for the reports are the same as those from the invited talks.

Course plan

Students should attend a number of lectures and attend tutorials coordinated by Prof. JM Toro. Lectures will be given by invited international speakers covering a wide array of current research topics in Cognitive Science and Psychology. Each student will present reports from 4 of the target lectures.

Assessment

The attendance to the lectures is mandatory. The evaluation will consist in 4 written reports, based on a selection of the attended lectures. The reports will include a summary of the talk and a personal assessment. Each report should be around 1000 words. Reports submitted after the deadline will have a 1.0-point penalty for each week of delay.

Re-evaluation will consist in a reformulation of the already presented reports, reformulation to be discussed with the coordinator of the course,  Prof. Toro. Only students having obtained a minimum of 3 (range 3 - 4.9) in the evaluation are eligible for re-evaluation; the final grade after reevaluation can only be 5.

Examination-based assessment

Under exceptional and justified circumstances a single examination (100% of the grade) can be scheduled.

Re-evaluation of this assessment can only be considered for students having failed with grades ranging from 3 to 4.9. The maximum final grade can only be 5.
