The University Centre for Sociolinguistics and Communication (CUSC) is involved in:

• Promoting theoretical and empirical knowledge of the determinants and dynamics of language use.
• Exploring the sociolinguistic and socio-communicative reality.
• Investigating contact linguistics in relation to multiculturality.

Facilities: Audio and video recording devices; software for quantitative and qualitative analysis.

The Psychology Laboratory is a unit of scholars sharing a common interest: the study of the faculty of language and, specially, bilingualism. 

Facilities: Eyetracking system, event-related potential recording system, PC computers for behavioral experiments.

Facilities: Psychophysics, Eye movements, Virtual Reality, Behavioral responses, neuroimage and modeling.

BIAP is a ‘María de Maeztu’ Unit of Excellence for 5 years, with a €2M/4-year grant (01/01/2023 until 31/12/2026) for a collaborative project on the nature and role of evidence.

Institute’s researchers are carry out their research on the identification and description of the general principles and key mechanisms that govern complex systems. This includes the study of theoretical aspects within the framework of network science and the modeling of the basic agents that make up a system and the study of emerging behaviors through their interactions. The analysis often involves processing a large amount of information, which requires the continuous development of tools in the context of so-called "Big Data".

Facilities: A cluster with several GPUs for machine learning research experiments.

The Language Technology Service (STeL) is expert on the treatment of information, with the aim of making it affordable in an organized and systematic way. It gives technological advice for the development of projects and creates specific applications at the request of researchers.

Facilities: A wide repertoire of technologies, ranging from the use of standard programs to sophisticated language processing techniques. Technical help for text analysis, machine learning equipment.

The Laboratory is a service of the Faculty of Philology and Communication of the UB. Founded in 1978, it is the oldest university phonetics laboratory in Spain. It carries out both educational and research activities.

Facilities: Ultrasound Tongue Imaging (UTI), nasometer, electroglotography, soundbooth, technical help for sound recording and analysis.
